School Programs

What is a Tree? is a program that is offered to any Chesapeake elementary school that is interested in scheduling Master Gardener Volunteers to teach first graders a short lesson about the many contributions that trees make to our daily lives.

Please contact the VCE office for scheduling details: 757 382 6348.

.

Teachers receive a classroom chart that is designed to extend learning post-visit, encouraging children to see the beauty and benefits that trees provide to the places we live, work, and play

The lesson ends with the class going outside to see how a tree is planted and what they can do to help nurture and care for it.

Many of the trees at our local elementary schools have been planted through this educational program.
