Grow Eat Live!
Located at: Chesapeake Health Department, 748 Battlefield Blvd. North, Chesapeake, VA 23320 (Behind Chesapeake Regional Hospital)
The Grow, Eat, Live Garden was started in 2014 by Carolyn Sanford, a Chesapeake Public Health Nurse and Master Gardener. Her vision of inspiring others to take action to be healthy continues today. With a focus on growing food, eating fresh vegetables and fruits, and getting outdoors for exercise and fresh air to improve physical and mental health.
The garden demonstrates the many different crops for small garden plots, and utilizes space saving techniques such as intensive planting, containers, vertical gardening and crop extenders which makes food production possible year- round here in Chesapeake.
Come and Check us out!
See all the current vegetables and fruits growing and participate in our programs that focus on a particular crop. The programs are educational and for all ages. Programs include: how to grow it, harvest and eat it, tastings when allowable again, recipes, giveaways, garden tours, kid’s activities, and more.
This summer, if you visit the garden on a Wednesday from 10am- 2:30pm there is a Farmer Market right there in the parking lot. It is sponsored by the Health Department and there are fresh eggs, vegetables, fruits, and other local products.
